Air and train routes supplemented at winter holidays
The air and train routes were supplemented to handle the flux of Moldovans coming home for holidays.
The number of people coming home from abroad increases each year, Operator within Dispatcher’s Office of International Airport Chisinau Sabina Boganistiuc has said, contacted by BASA-press. The administration of the airport decided to supplement the direct air routes to Italy. In December 17-31, there are daily routes at 19.40 to Rome, and on Sunday and Monday to Milan, at the same hour. Additional flights were also settled to Bologna, Verona and Pemsa. ”Over-solicited are the flights to Timisoara, Budapest or Moscow. If the Moldovans working in Italy can directly come home, it is more difficult for those coming from Portugal and Spain. They come in transit through Paris or Bucharest. All the available tickets for the direct flights were sold out. If there are more requests, they are likely to be supplemented”, Boganistiuc said. The Railway Administration of Russia doubled the number of trains on the route Chisinau-Moscow, sources from Chisinau Railway have said to BASA-press. In December 15-31, there are daily routes of four trains from Moscow to Chisinau. If necessary, in the last days of the year, one-two trains will be added, according to the quoted source. ”Each year, the tickets’ offices of Moscow Railways are overcrowded. Every Moldovan wants to join his family on holidays. The train tickets are cheaper than the air or car tickets, consequently, the most solicited. Even during the days after the New Year, the train tickets are still by Moldovans following the Christmas by the old calendar”, the quoted source said. By the middle of 2006, one fourth of the population of Moldova was working abroad, according to the survey Models and Tendencies of Migration and Remittances in Moldova. // BASA-Press Publication date: 26 December 2007 Source: Archive
