Ruth Gohman, the bodybuilder and wrestler who was known as Countess Victoria de Beaulais in the 1950s, has died of cancer at 71 in Texas.

The curvaceous blonde, who friends remember as feisty and fun, made a name for herself as one of the few female wrestlers on the Venice, Calif., scene, The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday. She and her fellow rough-and-tumble female wrestlers threw down in bathing suits and sneakers.

Gohman's parents in San Diego were strict Jehovah's Witnesses, the newspaper said, but a rebellious streak caused her to move to Venice.

After leaving her wrestling career, she moved to Texas and worked for AT&T until she retired, friends said. In her spare time she became an accomplished silversmith.  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
