Wintry front blasts U.S. Northeast
At least 10 winter storm-related deaths were reported Monday across the U.S. Northeast as a cold, gusty system blew freezing rain and snow across the region.
The weekend system was caused by warm, moist air passing over cold ground, which resulted in blowing freezing rain, followed by snow, AccuWeather.com reported. The storm was moving east, and forecasters said New England would get the most snow although areas to the lee of the Great Lakes would also get significant snowfall. The storm originated around Colorado, and forecasters said another, similar system was developing there again. Numerous flight delays were reported during the weekend in the Midwest and East, and more were expected before the storm moves into the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday, the report said. CNN reported freezing rain and winds also caused power outages between Iowa and Illinois during the weekend, and storm-related traffic accidents killed 10 people. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 03 December 2007 Source: Archive
