Mail carrier, running late, is shot
A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was shot in Chicago, Ill., after a homeowner on his route apparently shouted at him for delivering the mail "too late."
Denny Robinson was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., after he was shot Tuesday in the right thigh, The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday. Chicago Police Capt. Ruth Wedster said preliminary reports suggest a witness "heard someone yelling at him for delivering the mail too late." "A couple of minutes later, (the witness) heard a shot," she said. Wedster said no one heard where the shot originated from. Wanda Shipp, an inspector for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, said Robinson was finishing his shift later than usual because of a high volume of mail. "Our goal is to have all our employees back (from their route) by 5 p.m.," she said. "But because Monday was a holiday (Veterans Day), volume was heavier than normal on Tuesday." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 15 November 2007 Source: Archive
