Remains of girl missing 16 years found
The remains of a Scottish teenager missing for 16 years were found in southern England as police were searching for another missing teenager.
Vicky Hamilton was last seen Feb. 10, 1991, as the 15-year-old waited to catch a bus to her home in Redding. On Monday, police in the southern English town of Margate confirmed her remains had been found in a sand pit near a house. Police in Scotland then arrested 61-year-old handyman Peter Tobin, who had once lived in the house. Detectives were originally looking for the remains of another teenager, Dinah McNicol, from Essex, an 18-year-old who also disappeared in 1991 on her way home from a music festival, the Daily Mail reported. However, Detective Superintendent Tim Wills of Essex Police said the search was not over and will involve ground radar, The Scotsman reported. "I will not leave the house until I am satisfied that there are not any other human remains at this site," he told reporters. "We came here to search for the remains of Dinah McNicol or any physical evidence which might link her disappearance to the house and that is what we will continue to do." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 15 November 2007 Source: Archive
