Thai police have arrested a 74-year-old Briton in Thailand’s seaside resort of Pattaya on a charge of sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy.

Police said Alan Charles Mawson, originally from Barrow-in-Furness in England, was arrested after they received a complaint from the alleged victim that he had been sexually abused, the TimesonLine reported.

Mawson, who was charged with sexual abuse of a child under 15, could be sentenced to 10 years in prison if convicted, the report said.

Police said he has lived in Thailand for more than 20 years, operating a sauna and a property-leasing company. They said they found numerous photo albums and pornographic videos of naked boys and men in his apartment, TimesonLine said.

Last week, Thai police arrested Canadian teacher, Christopher Paul Neil, after being informed by Interpol that he had previously been charged with sexual abuse in several countries in Asia. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
