Frontier guards to have stopped Romanian delegations enter Moldova were punished
The two frontier guards that hindered the Romanian delegations from entering Moldova on October 12, were severely punished, Frontier Guards Service General Director Igor Colenov said after the governmental meeting on October 17.
He did not remember their names, but the incident had technical reasons, Colenov said. “In the evening of October 12, there were a very large number of those willing to enter Moldova through Leuseni customs point. The frontier guards, that were tired, got nervous with some citizens that tried to pass without waiting in the queue. Finally, they refused to allow these delegates from Romania enter with no legal ground the Moldovan territory”, Colenov added. We are speaking about a unique “regrettable” case here, the director said. On October 16, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan said the incident that occurred last week at the customs office is a unique one. “We are sorry for the fact that it was politicized, being represented at the European institutions as a position of Moldova towards the Romanian citizens. It is a single case of this kind, as the other about 2800 Romanian guests visited Moldova on October 13-14”, the minister said. Three delegations of Romanian officials were stopped from entering Moldova on Friday evening on the ground that they did not possess any original invitations. The incident was harshly criticized by the Romanian authorities for which they ask for explanations from Moldova. // BASA-Press Publication date: 18 October 2007 Source: Archive
