You need to be active with people today, even if you thought you had time to yourself. It's one of those days when it's just much more difficult for you to fly solo -- and you've got willing copilots!

Two boys' joyride ends with arrest

An 11-year-old boy, with a younger brother riding shotgun, survived a joyride in New York unscathed but took out two signs and an SUV before hitting a pole.

The underage driver and his 7-year-old brother were taken into police custody after the final collision, the Staten Island Advance reported Monday. Their 14-year-old brother wasn't in the car but also was arrested for allegedly getting into an altercation with officers at the scene.

Police allege the 11-year-old got behind the wheel of a green Ford Taurus with his younger sibling in the passenger seat, and set off on a wild ride through Port Richmond Sunday.

"The kids in the car took off like a bat out of hell," said Joe Wright, who lives nearby.

Wright said when the young driver became blocked by one car, he nearly took out another motorist while turning around before eventually crashing into an SUV, a stop sign, a school crossing sign and then a utility pole.

The owner of the vehicle is still a mystery, but onlookers said it may have been stolen from a junkyard.  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
