You need to be active with people today, even if you thought you had time to yourself. It's one of those days when it's just much more difficult for you to fly solo -- and you've got willing copilots!

Ex-stockbroker dead in apparent suicide

Ex-stockbroker Robert McLean, found dead Tuesday behind a church in Tennessee, left a suicide note at his brother's home, police said.

Shelbyville Police Chief Austin Swing said the note indicated McLean -- the subject of multiple lawsuits and a criminal investigation -- had committed suicide, and it included a phone number to notify a family member and information about funeral arrangements, The Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Post reported.

McLean's body was found by the First Christian Church's pastor on a grassy hill behind the church about 8 a.m., Swing said. “He died from a gunshot wound to the head by a .38 pistol,” Swing said.

McLean, 59, of Murfreesboro, was scheduled to appear in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Wednesday and face investors claiming he owed them more than $20 million.

Among those suing McLean was Ron Vannatta of Shelbyville, a member of the church where McLean’s body was found, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

Vannatta’s lawsuit alleged he gave $8.5 million to McLean to invest, some of which was to help fund First Christian Church scholarships.

McLean had been staying at his brother’s home in Shelbyville, which also is the town where he grew up, The Tennessean said. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
