Electrocuted prof's family sues university
A lawsuit filed by a Cleveland State University professor who was electrocuted in a biology lab has gone to trial.
Professor Tarun Mal was killed in August 2005 when he received a nearly 400-volt shock while trying to plug in an adaptor that would allow him to plug two-pronged plugs into the university’s three-pronged outlets, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Sunday. Mal’s family is suing the school, arguing it should have installed modern outlets to protect its employees. The suit, filed in the Ohio Court of Claims, asks for damages equal to the salary Mal would have earned if he had kept working for decades. A school expert witness, however, said it was Mal’s actions -- not the outlets -- that led to his death. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 24 September 2007 Source: Archive
