The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers that cryptosporidium was found in a bottle of Baby’s Bliss Gripe Water.

The parasite, which can cause intestinal infections, was confirmed through laboratory analysis in the investigation of the illness of a 6-week-old Minnesota infant, the FDA said Friday in a release.

The apple-flavored herbal supplement, used to treat gas and stomach discomfort, was sold in a 4-ounce plastic bottle with a code of 26952V and expiration date of October 2008, It was distributed by MOM Enterprises, Inc., of San Rafael, Calif.

The FDA said approximately 17,600 bottles of the product were distributed nationwide in retail stores and sold over the Internet between November 2006 and September 2007. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
