Parliamentary lawyers accuse Transnistrian authorities of disturbing educational process in institutions on left side of Dniester
The Parliamentary lawyers accuse the breakaway regime in Transnistria of disturbing the educational process in institutions on the left side of the Dniester River, which are under Moldovan jurisdiction, by arresting a lot of books meant for the "Lucian Blaga" lyceum in Tiraspol.
In line with a statement remitted to the BASA-press news agency, the parliamentary lawyers have stated that the breakaway Transnistrian officials are repeatedly trying to disturb the educational process. "This can cause a delay in the distribution of the textbooks which the pupils need to start the new academic year and will leave a negative impact on the educational process." Relating to this, Parliamentary lawyer Iurie Perevoznic appealed to the Ministry of Education and Youth, the Ministry of Reintegration and the OSCE Mission in Chisinau to use the necessary means and to make every effort to settle the problem and not to admit the violation of the right to education of the pupils from the "Lucian Blaga" lyceum. Director of lyceum Ion Iovcev has previously stated for BASA-press that the pupils who enrolled in the first form at the "Lucian Blaga" lyceum in Tiraspol, where the subjects are taught in Romanian, risk starting the academic year with no basic textbook "Abecedarul". "The lot of textbooks granted by the Ministry of Education in Chisinau are currently kept in Varnita village". On August 28, 2007, representatives of the breakaway authorities blocked a lot of about 900 textbooks granted by the Ministry of Education in Chisinau to the pupils of the "Lucian Blaga" lyceum. At first the reason of the arrest was not explained, but then they were told that such kinds of books are not printed in Transnistria, and the textbooks are to be examined to impede agitation against "the Moldovan Transnistrian Republic". At the same time, the Transnistrian Customs Committee rejected the accusations and affirmed that the people who were transporting the lot of textbooks had violated the Transnistrian legislation. "They had to pay a customs duty amounting to 100 per cent, which the Transnistrian officials apply to all the goods "imported" form Moldova as a "reaction to the economic blockade". // BASA-Press Publication date: 04 September 2007 Source: Archive
