Campus uses goats for grounds maintenanceThe University of Washington has hired a team of 60 goats to munch on the Seattle campus' weeds and other bothersome plants. The university contracted the work of Rent-A-Ruminant, based in Vashon, Wash., which supplies goats for landscaping, The Seattle Times reported. University grounds manager Rod White said he liked the idea because it is an efficient and environmentally responsible way of landscaping the university's 640-acre campus. Sources told the Times the goats are also a great conversation starter around campus. Goats, which have a four-stomach digestive system, are able to process the tough fibers of many pesky plants, the newspaper said.
