A jeweler in Switzerland is offering a unique commemorative item for those intrigued by the Titanic -- watches made of metal from the sunken ship's hull.

The Swiss jeweler Romain Jerome had metal taken from the Titanic's hull and blended it with more modern shipbuilding steel to create 2,012 of the unusual watches being marketed under the name Titanic-DNA, The Mail on Sunday reported.

The number of watches produced represents the 100th anniversary of the famed ship's sinking that will take place in five years time.

Romain Jerome chief executive Yvan Arpa said that he came up with the idea for the watches thanks in part to another former marvel of man.

The idea came to me when I visited a friend and he had a piece of the Berlin Wall on his mantelpiece, he said. I wanted to incorporate that idea of owning history into a watch.

The cost of the watches will likely sink customers' bank accounts as well, the Mail reported. They range in price from $9,100 to more than $150,000.
