Products as unusual as a banana pellet sold for hundreds of dollars at a space-flight memorabilia auction in California during the weekend.

One bidder paid $84 for a stainless steel flask at the Aurora Space and Aviation Memorabilia Auction, The Los Angeles Times reported. It was not clear whether the flask was ever carried into space, although there have been stories that some astronauts have taken flasks with them on space missions.

The banana pellet -- which is 45 years old and reportedly sold for $960 -- was said to have been a reward for chimpanzees who were flown into space prior to the manned program.
