Illegal immigrants from Indonesia, Myanmar caught in Singapore seas
Singapore (dpa) - Ten undocumented immigrants from Indonesia and Myanmar were caught trying to enter Singapore by sea in three separate incidents, police said Monday.
The apprehensions on Sunday brought the total number of people nabbed this year while attempting to enter the city-state by sea to 217. The 10 were scheduled to be charged in court Tuesday for unlawful entry. A Myanmar national in his teens was the first caught, police said. Another five Myanmar nationals between 16 and 20 were spotted more than an hour later swimming offshore and were pulled from the sea. Four Indonesians 16 to 20 were also detained after they were spotted in a wooden sampan. None of the 10 possessed valid travel documents, police said. // © 2006 DPA Publication date: 25 December 2006 Source: Archive
