Political party accuses government of degrading culture

The ruling party is trying to undermine the culture and arts in Moldova in order to serve its interests, with the area of culture being outdated from managerial, informational, material and other viewpoints.

Such a statement was made by the first vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) Mihai Godea at a news conference on August 28.

Godea said that the state bodies empowered to organize and manage the cultural process turned into political-ideological propaganda divisions of the ruling party. They do not cooperate with the creation units, while specialists’ opinions are ignored. The salaries of the artists, the purchase prices of the works of art and the remuneration offered to the authors are derisory.

“Instead of spending millions of lei for televised programs of a poor quality, in which the ideology is used as instrument for indoctrinating the population, they would better buy by a “Library for Everyone” collection issued by “Litera” publishing house for rural schools,” Godea said.

According to Godea, the state program in the zones is replaced by a single project, “Caravel of Culture”, which has an unjustified budget and promotes non-value.

PLDM calls on the government to stop using culture as a political instrument for propagating the Communist ideology, to eliminate any form of protectionism in financing the cultural-artistic programs, to immediately work out a national program of priorities in the area of culture, to create a national fund of culture that would include all the budget resources intended for cultural-artistic projects, and to reform the remuneration system in the institutions of culture.//REPORTER.MD
