2008 International Book Fair opens August 31
The seventeenth edition of the 2008 International Book Fair will open at the National Library on August 31. This year’s edition is dedicated to octogenarian Ion Druta and to the Year of Cantemir in Moldova.
The exhibition will be open until September 4, between 11.00 and 19.00. Book launches will take place every day until the exhibit closes. The fair will have three parts: the exhibition of the latest publications, awarding of the best publications and sales of books. The diplomas of the Council of Europe and prizes for the ten most read books of the year will be handed on August 31, after the opening of the fair. On the next day, Athenaeum Moldova of the National Library will hold a meeting on the situation of literature in Moldova. On September 2, the librarians from the countries participating in the fair will come together for the International Colloquium “Categorization as Strategic Direction in the Development of Modern Librarianship”. On the same day, publishing houses from Poland, the US, the UK, Japan, France, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and other countries will present their publications. There will be launched the integrated information system of Moldovan libraries – SIBIMOL. A series of activities titled Drutiana will take place on September 3. The activities will include an event-exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Ion Druta. Converted swimming pools for new housing?
A Sydney architectural firm suggests converting some of the area's 360,000 swimming pools into mother-in-law apartments -- draining them first.Nobbs Radford Architects' proposal was the runner-up in the Architecture Australia Prize for Unbuilt Work, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
