Japan offers emergency humanitarian assistance to Moldova to help alleviate consequences of floods
The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance (generators and water purifiers) for mitigation of the consequences of floods in Moldova.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Chisinau, the assistance is worth ten million Japanese yen (about US$90,000). The aid will be delivered to Moldova in the near future and distributed among the districts most affected by floods by the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Government of Japan will offer emergency assistance for the victims of floods in reply to the request made by the Government of Moldova, given the friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Moldova. So far, Moldova has received humanitarian aid from the Czech Republic, Turkey, Austria, Russia, France, Estonia, Lithuania, the United States Embassy, UNICEF, the Red Cross.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 08 August 2008 Source: Archive

Mexican jaguar gets dental work in Phoenix
A jaguar from Mexico recently had dental work done at the zoo in Phoenix by a father-son team. The Arizona Republic reported Saturday that veterinary dentist Chris Visser and his son Louis, a dentist who normally works on humans, performed four root canals and three extractions on the big cat.The newspaper said an armed man stood watch as a total of six doctors worked on the cat's mouth just in case it unexpectedly came out of anesthesia.
