Young Liberal-Democrats protest against delay in signing Convention on Small Border Traffic
Yes to the Convention!” - this was the message of the second three-minute flashmob rally organized by 35 young Liberal-Democrats in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration on July 24. The young people demanded that the signature of the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic is hastened.
The young Liberal-Democrats tied with red ribbons at the legs and at the mouth expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in signing the Convention, carrying two placards with the inscription “Yes to the Convention” and a placard representing a barbed wire. The red ribbon symbolized the Communist censorship, while the barbed wire – the border on the Prut River. According to Vadim Antoni, the president of the PLDM Youth Organization in Chisinau, the young people wanted to show that they did not give up and will continue to exert pressure so that the Convention is signed. Antoni said that the Foreign Ministry was selected as place for the flashmob meeting because it is the institution that postpones the signature of the document. If the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic is signed, the Moldovans living near the Moldovan-Romanian border would travel visa free 50 kilometers inland Romania.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 24 July 2008 Source: Archive
