The U.S. Department of State will donate as humanitarian assistance a substantial quantity of medical equipment and supplies to medical facilities in Moldova, within the framework of the Operation Provide Hope (OPH) Project.
According to a communique from the U.S. Embassy, OPH is providing about $20,000,000 worth of medical supplies and equipment from the U.S. Army Medical Material Center Europe in Germany. The first of 100 trucks will arrive in Moldova on July 23, and the project will continue through September. The donation includes monitoring equipment for intensive care, X-ray equipment, film processing technology, anesthesia machines, and sterilization equipment, as well as bandages, linens, syringes, and other consumables. 40 trucks full of equipment and supplies will go to Balti (for the District Hospital, Perinatology Center and Dental Clinic), 15 trucks will go to Cahul (for the Raion Hospital and Dental Clinic), 25 trucks will go to Chisinau (for the Kotsaga Republican Children’s Hospital, National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, University Center for Primary Health Care, University Dental Clinic and National Medical College), and 20 trucks will go to Tiraspol (for the Clinical Hospital, Veterans Hospital, Primary Health Care Center, and Dental Clinic.) Each truck will be unloaded by OPH team members. The United States Embassy in Chisinau will oversee the distribution of medical equipment and supplies to medical institutions of Moldova in accordance with the lists previously coordinated with and approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova. This is the third and the biggest OPH project for Moldova. The first two, in 1994 and 2000, also provided medical equipment and supplies.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 23 July 2008 Source: Archive
