Hotels spice up pools

The swimming pool lined with Swarovski crystals at California's Thompson Beverly Hills hotel is just the latest such facility to go luxury, officials said.

Thompson Hotels chief Jason Pomeranc said the glittery crystals, which are embedded in glass, create a shimmery effect that's one-of-a-kind and very Hollywood, USA Today reported Friday.

Pomeranc said other hotels run by the company, including the Donovan House boutique hotel in Washington, have also taken extra measures to ad to the aesthetic experience. He said the Washington hotel now features an elaborate design on the bottom of the pool, giving it an artistic flare.

I see pools as palettes, Pomeranc said.

Meanwhile, The Joule, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Dallas, said its new pool features elaborate architecture that includes a translucent end that protrudes out 10 stories above the street.

The new Gansevoort South hotel in South Beach, Fla., claims its new swimming hole is the world's largest rooftop pool at 110 feet long. The pool is lined with palm trees and a window that allows bar patrons to observe the underwater antics of swimmers.
