Bessarabian Metropolitan Church condemns priests’ statements about situation inside Church
The Bessarabian Metropolitan Church took attitude towards the statements about the situation inside the Church made recently by a group of priests, saying that it disapproves of the scandalous form chosen by the priests to solve the internal problems faced by the Metropolitan Church.
In a statement issued to the press, the Bessarabian Metropolitan Church says that the declarations made for the press, on the radio and TV are provocations inspired by hostile forces that aim to destabilize the situation inside the Metropolitan Church and to disseminate confusion among the faithful. Recently, a group of 44 priests of the Bessarabian Metropolitan Church issued a statement demanding that His Holiness Metropolitan Bishop of Bessarabia Petru resign and that the Metropolitan Church is freed from the influence of any political party. The statement was signed by priests from Calarasi, Ungheni, Cahul, Edinet, Lapusna, Chisinau si Tighina. The signatories said that Bishop Petru avoids having a constructive and transparent dialogue and tries to disunite the clergy, even if he repeatedly said that he is incapable of managing the Metropolitan Church. They also said that His Holiness Petru allows the MP Vlad Cubreacov to influence him, but does not listen to the advice of priest counselors. “The funds of the Metropolitan Church are distributed also under the influence of Cubreacov,” the priests said. His Holiness Petru was named Metropolitan Bishop of Bessarabia in 1995. The Bessarabian Metropolitan Church now includes 120 parishes.//REPORTER.MD Publication date: 17 July 2008 Source: Archive
