The Prosecutor General’s Office took legal action against the former minister of the interior Gheorghe Papuc over trafficking in firearms. The spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru confirmed this.

“Papuc has not been charged and interrogated yet, but this can happen in the near future. The former minister of the interior is accused of not declaring at the customs the arms that he received as present or those that he was offering as gift during official visits,” the Russian press quoted Vieru as saying.

Vieru refused to make other comments so as not to influence the investigation.

The quoted source also said that last week, Papuc was interrogated as witness in the “Heroine” case.

On March 20, the police discovered the largest batch of drugs ever found in Moldova. It contained 200 kg of heroine worth 10 million euros. The drugs had been smuggled from Afghanistan, packed in Turkey and were to reach a European country via Moldova.

Later, the Prosecutor’s Office announced that Corneliu Savca, the head of the Interior Ministry’s Field Operations, and another two colleagues of his were arrested on suspicion of involvement in this case. Allegedly, the three were to make sure that the drugs cross Moldova successfully.//REPORTER.MD
