Former dignitary obliged to pay damages over case lost in EHCR instead of the state
The court of Rascani district examined the lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office and ordered that the former minister of transport and communication Anatol Cuptov pays 8,345 lei over a case lost in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on September 6, 2007, the ECHR passed judgment in the case of Ungureanu versus Moldova and obliged the Government to pay 500 euros damages to the plaintiff. Moldova was found guilty because the former minister refused to enforce a definitive court decision and reinstate the plaintiff Petru Ungureanu in his post. The decision passed by the Rascani Court is not final and can be appealed to a higher court. This is for the first time that a former dignitary is obliged by court to pay damages over a case lost in the ECHR instead of the state// Reporter.MD Publication date: 03 July 2008 Source: Archive
