Police officer sentenced to five years in jail for torture and passive corruption
The Court of Appeals Balti sentenced the senior police officer of the Briceni Police Department Tudor Cazacliu to five years in prison for torture and passive corruption. Cazacliu was also deprived of the right to hold posts in the Interior Ministry’s divisions for a period of three years and was fined 50,000 lei.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, Tudor Cazacliu, 32, was accused of beating a man with a rubber tube while working for the Briceni Police Department in Caracusenii-Vechi village. The man was suspected of raping a minor girl. The police officer asked 5,000 lei for not holding the man accountable for rape. The prosecutors proved that in 2006, Tudor Cazacliu collected over 10,000 lei from persons that did not want to be held administratively or criminally accountable. // Reporter.MD Publication date: 06 June 2008 Source: Archive
