The people out of work at the end of March totaled about 67,000. Some 59.8% of these were men. At the same time, 55.4% of the unemployed were from urban areas.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate was 5.5%, as against 5.7% in the first quarter of the last year. The jobless rate among young people aged between 15 and 24 was 13.1%.

A number of 25,000 people gave up looking for a job in the first three months of this year as they lost hope. The official number of persons that went abroad to work was 315,000. About two-thirds of these were men. Roughly 70% of the people that work abroad are from rural areas.
