Pregnant women and nursing mothers affected by 2007 drought will receive food packages
About 9,500 pregnant women and nursing mothers that live in regions extremely affected by the 2007 drought, including Transdniestria, will receive food packages provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as part of the UN project “Relief and Technical Assistance Response to the Drought in Moldova”.
According to the United Nations Development Program, food packages that include sunflower oil, rice, sugar, flour, maize and condensed milk will be distributed to pregnant women and nursing mothers (with 6-month old children) through reproductive health centers from those 19 rayons most affected by this summer’s drought.. The packages will be offered to pregnant and nursing women that are out of work, are younger than 19, are disabled or look after disabled children, have three or more children, are from very vulnerable families. Last autumn, the UNFPA provided food packages to 9,000 pregnant women and nursing mothers through the UN project “Relief and Technical Assistance Response to the Drought in Moldova”.
