Be a little more careful than usual at work or in social situations -- people are much more attuned to tiny infractions of social rules. You can get away with a little, but don't try to push it!

About 200 pensioners attempt to block Chisinau thoroughfare to make Premier talk to them

Some 200 pensioners tried to block the traffic along Stephan the Great Boulevard on May 13 in an effort to make Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi to come out so as they could inform her about the problems faced by the elderly people living in Chisinau.

But the police thwarted the pensioners in their attempt. The about 200 pensioners gathered in the Great National Assembly Square on Tuesday morning to ask the governors to provide better living conditions and decent pensions for them.

The meeting was organized by the Public Association ”Salvgardare” (“Safeguard”). The Association’s president Maia Laguta said that the pensioners took to the streets to ask the Premier, the Mayor of Chisinau and the Prosecutor General to talk to them and solve the problems with which they are confronted.

The protesters demanded that the pensions are adapted to the minimum consumption level and that the charges for public utilities are decreased. They accused Union Fenosa, Apa-Canal Chisinau SA and Termocom SA of committing illegalities when metering the services they provide. The Chisinau City Hall was accused of not taking measures to improve the living conditions of the pensioners.

While the pensioners were protesting, the Deputy Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Iurie Bucinschi came out of the Government building, but the protesters said they want to speak to Zinaida Greceanyi only.

As there was no reaction from the Prime Minister, at about 13:00, the pensioners attempted to block Stephan the Great Boulevard, but with no result. They said they will again protest in front of the Government building on May 14 and voiced hope that they will make themselves heard // Reporter.MD
