Two customs officers dismissed, and heads of Leuşeni and Leuşeni-Albiţa customs services, reproved
Two customs officers were dismissed, and the head of Leuşeni Customs Services and that of Leuşeni-Albiţa were severely reproved in the case registered one month ago regarding those 300 thousand packages of cigarettes hidden in three tanks that were going to Romania to get loaded with petrol products.
Following some actions of the policemen from Iasi, Romania, they revealed over 300 thousand packages of cigarettes hidden in three tanks heading Romania, according to the Customs Service Press Service. Those three vehicles were accompanied to Iasi, where the police detached the constructive elements, discovering 338 thousand packages of LM, Saint George, Viceroy, MT and Plugarul cigarettes, estimated at about 330 thousand euros. The goods were to reach the markets of Prahova and din Bucureşti. The drivers, two citizens of Moldova, and one of Poland, said they did not know about the cigarettes; they were examined by the prosecutors from the Investigation direction of Organized Criminal Offences and Terrorism for false statements, swindling, usage of unreal acts and forgery. Ultimately, Customs Service of Moldova General Director Viorel Melnic initiated a work research to settle the guilty person. Following the investigations, they settled these three tanks passed Leuşeni customs point, undergoing one-hour control. Then, they headed Leuşeni-Albiţa. The Romanian police officers found on the external cover of the tanks vivid signs of customs control. A tank was pierced inside till the wall of the fuel basin, but they found no cigarettes. The tank was modsified in such a way that there was a smaller tank inside it. And between these two, there were hidden cigarettes. The control of the vehicles when leaving Moldova was made by two inspectors of Leuşeni customs point that did it superficially. As a result, the two customs officers were dismissed from customs service, and the head of Leuşeni customs point and that of Leuşeni-Albiţa (auto) were applied a disciplinary “severe reprove” for insufficient control when fulfilling their service duties. // BASA-Press Publication date: 08 May 2008 Source: Archive
