The GenderDoc-M Information Center will conduct the VII parade of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transsexuals of Moldova, titled “The Rainbow over the Dniester” on May 8-11, 2008.

At a news conference in Infotag on Tuesday its Director Alexei Marcicov said that in the frame of this parade Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transsexuals will march for the first time through the Central Square of Chisinau to openly demonstrate the need for the approval the Law on Non-discrimination.

“The action will take place on May 11 from 11 to 12 o’clock under the motto “All of Us is Different – All of Us is Equal”. In contrast to the previous years, when we were not allowed to conduct such actions, we were told to phone on May 7 and, if no other action is conducted on the square on May 11, we shall be allowed to organize our march”, Marcicov said.

In his words, such actions as laying down flowers to the Monument of Victims of the Reprisals, the “Miss Flowless Queen” Contest of Transvestites–2008, as well as a gala concert with the participation of local stars will take place in the frame of the festival.

“In memory of Gays and Lesbians, tortured to death in the fascist concentration camps, the Day of May 9 will be declared as the Day of Combating Homophobia/Xenophobia. On this day the “ Silentio” film about the discrimination of sexual minorities in Moldova will be shown on the territory of Star Trek Club for the first time and the film, titled “You are in the Center of Attention, Fellow” about the first steps of the Gay-cinema will be also shown”, Marcicov said.

In his words, the conference “Ten Years of Struggle: Experience, Lessons and the Outlook for the Development of the sexual minority movement on the post-Soviet space” will sum up the results of the GenderDoc-M Center’s activities for the first ten year of its functioning in Moldova.
“We do not propagandize our way of life. We are a part of the society and we want that our rights to be observed”, he remarked.

It is expected that guests from Sweden, Canada, Russia, Romania, Belgium, Israel, Georgia and Belarus will participate in the pride. The actions are financed by the Swedish Helsinki Committee, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the “SOS” Association of Gays and Lesbians, the European section of the International Lesbian and Gay Association ILGA-Europe.// Infotag
