The village-greenhouse from the district of Falesti
The inhabitants of the commune Taxobeni from the district of Falesti are concered as the most talented gardners from the North-West of the Republic of Moldova, DECA-press transmits.
For approximately 80% of the population of the two villages of the commune - Taxobeni and Grubna Noua – the gardening has become a business and, usually, the unique source of income. Most inhabitants of the two villages are unemplyed, so that, for most of them, the gardening is the unique source of existance. Almost all villagers have built greenhouses and have arranged nursery gardens. The greehouses are warmed and maintained with dung. The villagers from Taxobeni commune have obtained the first incomes from the sales of spring radish in March and the last ones after having sold the autumn cabbage. The oldest gardener from the village is Gheorghe Putintica, aged 74 years old. The old man specialized in growing tomatoes.he has got an annual income of over one thousand euros. Some younger villagers win several times higher sums of money per year. According to the mayor of the commune, Victor Onofrei, before the institution of the visa system by Romania, the villagers of Taxobeni used to sell their production in localities from the other bank of the Prut River, and now, most of them have to sell at the markets from Falesti and Ungheni. Those who have no time for commerce sell their vegetables for wholesale in Balti, Edinet and Otaci or even at their gate. The inhabitants of the village consider that thei vegetables are ecologically more pure. This is due to the fact that their greenhouses are not artificially warmed, they are warmed with the help of the dung buried in the soil. Since in Taxobeni people have no time to grow cattle, the natural drung is „imported” from the neighbouring villages. The gardeners pay per one hundred lei per one chart with drung. // DECA-Press Publication date: 08 April 2008 Source: Archive
