Over 27 thousand Moldovans purchased the obligatory medical insurance policy at a reduced price. The bonus of 1893 lei (over 115 euro) of the medical insurance was settled by the Government for 2008, but in the first three months, it could be purchased at half price, with 946 lei.

This year, they sold over 2.5 fold more policies of medical insurance against in 2007, National Insurance in Medicine Company (CNAM) Director Gheorghe Rusu has said, contacted by BASA-press. According to preliminary data, on all the territory of the country, in December 17, 2007 – March 31, 2008, when the medical insurance policies could be purchased at reduced price, they sold over 27 thousand units in the amount of over 25 million lei. It is by 12 million lei more against the same period in 2007. “The people already trust the system of obligatory medical insurance and prefer insuring against paying the integral cost of the treatment. In 2008, more people could afford buying the policy”, Rusu said.

The policies will still be distributed at all the post offices from the country, but at a price of 1893 lei already, according to the quoted source.

The medical insurance policies can be purchased also by the unemployed and not-insured people living in Moldova, on the state account. The foreign citizens, permanent or temporary residents of Moldova, may purchase the medical insurance policy at the presentation of the stay permit. The citizens from the left bank on Dniester River will be issued the policy at the presentation of the passport of internal use, 1974 model.

In 2008, the medical insurance policy is obligatory to be purchased by the enterprise founders, owners of patents or agricultural areas, and by those that give for rent dwelling space or offices. The state budget is insuring the pensioners, invalids, unemployed, pupils and students, pregnant women and the mothers with four and more children.

In 2008, for the medical insurance, the employees pay one third of their salary, and the other three thirds are paid by the employers from the salary fund. As many as 75% of all the beneficiaries of the insurance policies are insured by the state and employers, while 25% of the Moldovan population is to buy the policy by themselves, according to CNAM data.

The medical insurance policy was introduced in Moldova on January 1, 2004. In 2007, it cost 1209 lei.  // BASA-Press
