The witnesses in penal cases to be protected like in developed countries

In Moldova, the witnesses in penal cases will be protected like in developed states. The Parliament voted on Friday in first reading the law project of witnesses and other participants at a penal case, which taken into consideration the items of a directive of the European Union in this field, DECA-press Agency informs.

It provides the creation of a special department which will work within the Ministry of Home Affairs (MAI) and which will deal mainly with the protection of witnesses and persons who will cooperate in penal cases.

The department will take the decisions regarding the application of measures of protection; will elaborate together with the witness the program of protection; will elaborate a data base of protected persons; will assure maximal confidentiality of the data, etc.

Witnesses will be assured protection till the trial, during it and a period of time after the trial. Some witnesses will get protection for good. penal cases
