Ex Minister of Defence Valeriu Pasat suggests Parliament to create committee to evaluate circumstances of his case
The former Minister of Defence Valeriu Pasat, ex director of the Information and Security Service of Moldova, suggests the Parliament to create a committee of inquest that would evaluate the circumstances of the “Pasat case” and that would speak to the point. “Starting with what I said, I am making the Moldovan Parliament deputies a suggestion: to create a committee of inquest that would evaluate the circumstances of the case, which is being tergiversated for three years already”, Valeriu Pasat’s press statement says, reissued to BASA-press.
“I express my belief that the activity of the inquest committee created by the deputies, would not only consolidate the authority of the Parliament as the supreme body of the representative power, but would contribute, as well, to consolidating the state of Moldova”, the statement says. “In the list of “criminal” accusations that I am charged with, I would draw the attention, namely, to the so-called blame of “state blow”. I would not have addressed the deputies, to some people chosen by the nation, if such blames referred exclusively to me”, Pasat says. The Parliamentary practice has never met such a situation, in which the deputies should involve in any case, as long as it is being examined by an instance, Juridical Committee for Appointments and Immunities President Vladimir Ţurcan has sad, contacted by BASA-press. “The case is under examination at the Supreme Court of Justice and until they notify their decision, we, the deputies, cannot intervene. Anyway, it refers to the separation of the state powers. Currently, I do not think such an inquest committee is possible to create”, Ţurcan said. The Parliament could take a decision in this respect if there was an interpellation in the plenum of the Legislative, according to the quoted source. On March 11, 2005, Valeriu Pasat was retained, being accused of distributing, at low prices, 21 MIG-29 planes and some URAGAN war reactives. In January 2006, he was convicted to ten years imprisonment. Ultimately, the Court of Appeal (CA) acquitted Pasat to the charge of MIG-s. In May 2007, the CSJ quashed CA decision and accepted the decision which convicted Pasat to ten years imprisonment. CA had to reexamine the case. On July 9, 2007, he was acquitted to the MIG charge. In the second charge, in which he was accused of selling the reactive systems Uragan, the convicted was amnestied. In February 2006, Pasat was filed a case for “state power abuse” and for “preparing a deliberate murder aiming at committing another murder”. Pasat is also accused of weapon contraband. // BASA-Press Publication date: 26 March 2008 Source: Archive
