Council of Europe could return to the case of Basarabian Metropolitan Church
The Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe (CE) considers that there are some gaps left in the execution of the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the case of the Basarabian Metropolitan Church, DECA-press communicates.
They are connected mainly to the items of the Cult Law and the registration of some elements of the Metropolitan Church. The committee has recently examined the situation in this context and came to the conclusion that, if necessary, they will return to the examination of the case at the beginning of June 2008. This could happen within a reunion dedicated to the defence of human rights, scheduled for June 3rd-5th. At the beginning of this year, the Arch bishop of Basarabia, Petru Paduraru, sent a letter to the General Secretary of Council of Europe, Committee of Ministers of CE and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), where he accused the authorities of Moldova that they discriminate the Metropolitan Church in comparison with other religious faiths. He asserts that the registration of the elements of the Metropolitan Church in this region is almost blocked. As a result of this appeal, the Committee of Ministers resumed the discussions in this case. // DECA-Press Publication date: 12 March 2008 Source: Archive
