Why does Google changed to Topeka? It's April Fools Day!
Google has changed its name to Topeka to return the favor the small Kansas city bestowed on it when it temporarily changed its name to Google. In an attempt to get its attention, the mayor of Topeka has temporarily renamed his city Google – "the capital city of fiber-optics." That's right, for the month of March, Topeka, Kansas, has been dubbed Google.
"Today we are pleased to announce that as of 1AM (Central Daylight Time) April 1st, Google has officially changed our name to Topeka," writes Eric Schmidt, CEO of "Topeka Inc.," in the blog linked to "Topeka" on google.com.
