What Do You Do on Christmas? Go to Maramures (VIDEO)

Christmas carols, traditions and customs are kept sacredly in this wonderful landscape and children since small age know the meaning of Christmas celebration and its importance to mankind.
The reason why thousands of foreigners go on Christmas Eve in Maramures, especially in the village Viseu is the show offered by Viflaim. Viflaim is a popular theatre that shows the birth of Jesus and the escaping of Mary and Joseph. This custom was preserved in very few places, but village Viseu has the greater and the most numerous Viflaims. In Viseu, at midnight, all residents and tourists go to the church to enjoy the wonder spread by Christmas spirit.
Another reason to choose Maramures is related by the fairy beauty of these places. Borsa Complex Resort, from the foot of the massif Pietrosul, of Rodna Mountains, where there are some of the steepest ski paths in Europe, with cable cars and ski lifts, modern bars and restaurants and the Monastery of Barsana, located at 30 km from Viseu, on the Iza Valley – these are some of the most splendid and great places of interest.
In the Christmas Eve, in valleys of Maramures are heard echoes of carol singers, while housewives finish their final preparations for the holiday table.
For several years in Maramures is organized the program “Christmas in Maramures”, which aims the play and perpetuation of wonderful Christmas traditions and customs. Tourists that came to these thematic programs can taste traditional dishes cooked by local women, hear the Maramures carols and be a witness or even to participate at the slaughter of a pig.
If all these customs disappeared, all the magic fair of Christmas would disappear, because we cannot imagine Christmas without its announcing by carols, so we have to keep and contribute to the preserving of these treasure of our nation.
