Village Haunted by the Man-Wolf
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Since old times, it is said that the wolf is an animal in which are transformed all people who died dissatisfied with the God. “He, who doesn’t keep these laws, who doesn’t forsake the frailties, who remains dissatisfied, with sin in soul, is punished and cursed never to find the peace in this world and in the heaven and to roam as a wolf, as a ghost, as a dog without a master”, says Reveca, a local of village Poeni, from Banat of Mountain (Poiana Rusca Mountains), Romania.
Village Poeni is cursed since more than one hundred years to be haunted by some strange wolves that attack devour people from this village. It is said it’s strange, because, according to experts in zoology, wolves never attack people, except when they are rabid. There are no circumstances wolves to become man eaters, a phenomenon encountered only at lions, tigers and leopards.
The mystery from Poeni village deepens more if it is considered the fact that in this area there were no wolves more than one hundred years ago.
Village elders, however, are convinced that these attacks are committed by undead, by the souls of those who died dissatisfied and now haunt and attack people. Those who escaped the bane tell that the beast from another world looks like a big black dog with disheveled fur and it doesn’t leave footprints on snow or in the dust when it runs, as it would have hovered.
Another argument that contends the theory of ghosts is that the monster disappeared immediately when people began to make the sign of cross or to say a prayer.
But more strange is the fact that the people attacked by wolves were of the same nation, and the locals found the explanation of these attacks. Villagers think that the story of the descendants beaten by the accursed beast began about two hundred years ago, when someone from this family killed another villager to steal a very valuable weapon. Killed person was the only son of an old woman, who would be thrown a heavy curse in the funeral day in the cemetery on the family of her son killer.
Is this so or not, we cannot certainly know, but the locals, caring not to become dissatisfied souls in that world, go regularly to the church, shrive themselves and follow all the posts, so they hope to flee of the wolf curse that haunts the village.
