U.S. will provide $1.5m to Moldova to combat human trafficking and corruption
The U.S. Government will offer $1.5 million to Moldova to assist the law enforcement bodies in combating trafficking in human beings and public corruption and to strengthen the law enforcement and security agencies’ capacities for annihilating organized criminal groups.
The financial assistance will be provided under the amendment to the letter of agreement on law enforcement and drug control signed by Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc and the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael D. Kirby on May 22.
During the signing ceremony, Michael Kirby praised the Moldovan law enforcers for their efforts and said that the U.S. Government is ready to continue providing support in developing the capacities of these institutions.
As part of these projects, the U.S. Government will allocate funds to insure direct legal assistance in matters related to the enhancement of criminal justice, specialized training programs and relevant materials to strengthen the capacities of the Moldovan law enforcement bodies, especially of those that fight against transnational criminal organizations, and to designate U.S. experts for different training courses.
The funds will be allocated for the projects “Consultant on Legal Matters”, “Development of Law Enforcement Bodies’ Capacities”, Law Enforcement Agencies’ Technical Consultant for the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons of the Interior Ministry”, and “American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA/ROLI)”. // Reporter.MD
