US humanitarian aid for flood victims reaches Moldova
A consignment of 250,000-dollar-worth humanitarian aid provided by the USA for Moldovan flood victims reached Hincesti district today.
US Deputy Ambassador to Moldova Marcus Michelli said that that the consignment comprised adjustable beds, blankets, hygiene items, sleeping beds and towels. The USA additionally granted 50,000 dollars for seeds and furniture for flood victims.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the assistance would be distributed by the commission dealing with this issue on the basis of lists.
Filat said he would ask the USA for assistance in the form of experts to help work out the National Strategy of waters management and protection against floods in order to avoid similar situations.
The Moldovan government has previously asked foreign countries and donor organizations to help overcome the flood consequences.
The Finance Ministry informed that 15 million lei (over 937,500 euros) has been transferred on a special bank account for flood victims so far.
