US embassy condemns antisemitic incident in Chisinau
The U.S. Embassy condemns Sunday's violence targeting the Jewish Menorah in Chisinau's Central Park, that has ended up with the destruction of Jewish Menorah, DECA-press informs.
According to a press release, the USA condemns “the hate speech used by the instigators of the incident”.
The Moldovan Constitution guarantees the equality of all, without discrimination as to race, nationality, ethnic origin, language or religion. „The United States believes in these principles of equality and tolerance and supports a democratic, European Moldova where the rights of citizens of all ethnic groups and religions are assured”, the press release shows.
On Sunday the Jewish Menorah, installed for eight days in Stefan cel Mare’s Park on the occasion of Hanukah Jewish holiday (Holiday of Lights), was destroyed by a group of Orthodox parishioners. The wooden cross was installed on that place.
The representatives of the Jewish community considered the incident was an act of anti-Semitism.
The incident was condemned by Republic of Moldova authorities, as well as by a series of political factions.
