Unionists threaten widespread protests

Unionist March

The Civic Platform “Action 2012” threatens widespread protests if claims made at the Unionist March of 16th September will not be met by the Alliance for European Integration. At the same time, unionists condemn Marian Lupu’s statement about the status of the Romanian language.

“Marian Lupu, a former Communist who became Democrat overnight, attacks those who brought freedom and confidence in a better future to Bessarabians, after 70 years of lies and persecution. However, we partially agree with Marian Lupu’s statement that Unionist Parades create problems in Chisinau. The problems are the observance of democracy and freedom of expression in a weak state, which is represented by people who often change their minds”, said the member of the unionist platform, Constantin Codreanu for Moldova.ORG.

The Unionist March was organized on 16th September. They claimed that the Government should introduce changes in the Constitution, including the phrase “state language” to be changed into “the Romanian language” until 1st January 2013.

Marian Lupu stated yesterday during a TV broadcast that he changed his mind regarding the language spoken in the Republic of Moldova. “From the scientific point of view it is not Romanian, as I was saying before, but Moldovan”, said the Democratic leader.
