Unionists calling to unity
The Movement of Unionists [standing for unification of the Republic of Moldova and Romania] has called on all unionist forces in the republic to unite ranks. Last Sunday, Movement leader Ilie Bratu stated at the rally in Chisinau dedicated to the 90th anniversary of unification of Bessarabia and Romania, that “these are not the democrats who must unite, but the unionists”.
The Movement organized the rally jointly with the Association Against the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the Academy of the Environment. The action, held in the capital city’s central square, gathered several hundred people sharing the Moldova-Romania unification idea. They cried out pro-Europe and pro-Romania slogans and blamed the incumbent Communist authorities of their anti-Romanian policy.
Ilie Bratu claimed the Moldovan democratic forces do nothing to promote the unionism idea, and voiced apprehension that next 5-6 years the Moldovan Romanians “will vanish as such”.
Manifestations on the occasion of the unification are expected to take place on the event day – March 27. So, next Thursday the Democratic Forum of the Romanians of Moldova will hold a rally of its own.
Yet another manifestation, to take place on March 27, is being prepared by the Hyde park, a local non-governmental organization. Its representative Genadie Brega was detained by police last weekend when he was distributing leaflets to the forthcoming event. // Infotag
