Two dead as freight trains crash in northern Italy
Trento, Italy (dpa) - Two train drivers died Wednesday when their freight train rammed into another freight train stopped at a red light in a station in northern Italy, officials said.
The accident took place at 0535 a.m. (0435 GMT) in the Trentino Alto Adige region. Witnesses spoke of a "violent collision".
Trenitalia officials confirmed the deaths of the two drivers and said they were still investigating the causes of the accident. Human error was among the hypotheses being considered.
The railway line was blocked to traffic. The accident also affected trains travelling the Munich-Milan-Venice route. // © 2006 DPA
