Travel restrictions between Moldova and Romania due to extreme weather

Several checkpoints at the Moldovan-Romanian border have been closed today as a result of the wintry weather in the region, informs the Border Guard Service of Moldova. Leuseni-Albita, Cahul-Oancea and Giurgiulesti-Galati checkpoints closed today at 12 PM (local time).

The travel restrictions are enabled until the weather gets milder. As of February 12, due to heavy snowfalls, the Romanian Border Guard asked the Moldovan border patrols and customs officials to prohibit from entering Romania the trucks heavier than 7.5 tones heading to Bucharest.

The Moldovan Border Guard Service recommends the travelers to avoid entering Romania through the mentioned-above checkpoints. More snow is expected to fall in the southern parts of Romania and Moldova for the next two days.
