The Tree That Traveled through Cosmic Space (VIDEO)

By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- In Paulesti, a village from Calarasi County, there grows an oak in the school court. But there is an aspect that makes this oak more special than others, the fact that the acorn from which sprung this tree traveled in the cosmos.

In the 60s of XX century, Yuri Gagarin was the first man who went out in the outer space. But the space was explored not only by Yuri Gagarin, but also by some plant seeds and acorns. One of those acorns gave life to an oak of a great splendor that was planted in the school court of the village Paulesti.

The oak isn’t distinguished by anything else of the trees that surround it, but its history makes it special. Local take care of it and follow its development closely.

Paulesti is a village rich in uncommon trees. Besides this oak brought from cosmos, on the outskirts of the village, in front of an old boyar mansion there grows another special tree – a Platanus, the most aged plane tree on the territory of our country, which is about 290 years old. The trunk of this tree cannot be embraced by one person, it needs 3-4 people. The plane tree is as old as the boyar mansion, in the yard of whom it grows. It has a height of 25 meters and a diameter of the trunk of 160 cm.

Another special natural monument from the territory of the Paulesti domain is the natural clock composed of 24 pines, planted in a circle at an equal distance from one to another. This huge clock indicated the exact time to the boyars.

In the middle of this clock there was a large table where the workers of the mansion ate.
The mansion, in the front of which grow these special natural monuments of the republic territory, dates since the end of the XVIII century. Long time ago, the mansion and the yard that surrounds the building were of a rare beauty, but today the beauty of these places faded away because of the human ignorance and negligence, that turned the splendid mansion of the past times into ruins.

Our country Moldova is beautiful and there are a lot of wonderful places but it would be more beautiful if we promoted it, not at the destruction and pollution of the environment, but at the preservation and restoration of the architectural monuments.
