The Spa Resort without a Mineral Water Lake
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Cahul is the only city in Moldova, which has the status of resort. As an area rich in springs of mineral water with a unique composition, it is only half developed.
The resort has several bases of rest and treatment, which are ready to meet tourists at any time of the year.
Mineral waters from Cahul were discovered and chemical diagnosed in in 1956. By the chemical composition, the waters from the South part of Moldova are extremely valuable.
Rich in sulfur, iodine, bromine and sodium, with a low mineralization, they are widely used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular affections, dermatological, gynecological and central and peripheral nervous system diseases.
The bases have various installations for practicing of hydrotherapy, treatment rooms with water jets, underwater massage, vaginal lavage etc.
With all these modern installations and bases of rest, a big disadvantage harms the image of the resort – the lake with mineral water that is left derelict.
Like many other sightseeing and monuments of the territory of our republic, this lake was left without attention and care.
With a precious chemical composition for the treatment of many diseases, today it is just an excellent remedy for hundreds of frogs, perfectly healthy, which “treat themselves” in this lake.
The lake was not cleaned for over 20 years. The city mayoralty has not yet found the necessary resources for the redevelopment of the lake.
The zone of recreation “Salty Lake” was arranged in 1964, working for about twenty years, during which thousands of tourists, attracted by the mineral water of the lake, came for treatment. In the 80s it was closed and remained so since today.
What a pity of the natural values that we have, but we don’t know how to manage them!
The distance from Chisinau to Cahul is 164 km.
