The Oldest Locality in Moldova (VIDEO)
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ --The earliest documentary attestation of the locality refers to the village of Cobani Glodeni.
Officially, it is assumed that the village was founded in the year 1702, but we have to mention that the inhabitants, who founded the village moved here from another village, Zubreuti, renamed then in Vasileutii. And this village was founded in the year 1374. The displacement is due to the fact that the old village was located too close to the Prut River and was constantly flooded during periods when the River Prut overflows. As a result, the villagers have founded a new village located 2 km away from the River, on the right bank of the Camenca River.
There hangs over the village for hundreds of years the Great Rock, as the villagers call it, which by its splendor attracts the attention of visitors like a magnet.
The reef Great Rock is the most southern part of those which are in Moldova and extends from the north-east side of the country to the south-west to the bank of the Prut River. Namely in regions near the Prut River in the counties Briceni and Edinet, Glodeni Riscani, there are located most of complexes of reefs and rocks giving to north side of Moldova an original and unrepeatable look.
The landscape offered by complexes of reefs from Prut in the north of the Republic is truly sensational in its picturesque and magnificent treasures. The valleys, often flooded by the Rivers Prut and Camenca, succeed with vertical cliffs that delight sensations of viewers.
The range of reefs and rocks near the village Cobani is composed of 3 parts, of which, that which covers immediately above the village and the valley of the Camenca River is called Great Rock. A part of it, unfortunately, was exploded up and then exploited in industry for the extraction of valuable limestone. Only in 1988, with the efforts of villagers and ecologists there was stopped all the production activities on the territory of the reservation. Very Great Rock has about 1 km and is an extension of the range of rock complex.
The rock, which measures about 70-80 meters high, is crammed with lots of caves, which, according to villagers, were, according to the memories of old people in ancient times. It is also known that on these rocks and their neighborhood were made numerous excavations, which have been found traces of rare and disappeared species of animals and birds, and also artifacts of the Cucuteni-Tripolie culture.
A treasure too little visited by residents of the Republic of Moldova is the North side of Republic, which is beautiful in any season. Go and discover it!
