The man accused of having murdered the oldest priest from Balti in November 2007 was sentenced on Tuesday to 22 years’ imprisonment for having committed the murder with much cruelty, DECA-press Agency communicates.

At the beginning, prosecutors asked the law court to condemn him to life detention.

The judge acquitted the offender of the accusation according to which he committed a robbery act on priest Vasile Smoleak, who worked for the church for 55 years.
According to the evidence presented by the state accuser, the offender Ruslan Nicorici, aged 29 years old, committed the murder after having packed several gods from the victim’s house intending to take them out afterwards.

The judges considered that the offender hit the priest with a knife because of revenge for an old misunderstanding they had had long time ago.

Prosecutor Oxana Cazacu, said for DECA-press that she would send the sentence at the Court of Appeal from Balti, because she considers this decision too soft for him.
We remind you that, in November 2007, the priest Vasile Smoleak (foto), aged 85 years old, was found in his own house with the neck cut and hit with a knife twice. Soon after the crime, the Balti police officers arrested the author of the murder in a bus station from the district of Ungheni. This one was Ruslan Nicorici, originating from the village of Fantanita, Drochia. Before that, he stayed in prison for having committed four thefts for six years. // DECA-Press
